But just because they’re over, doesn’t mean the drama with them is finished.
In fact, now that they’re over, NBC is scrambling to cover this up after Trump noticed something strange at the debate…
Well, it wasn’t just Trump who noticed the blunder, it was the entire world.
As anyone watching the first night of the debates noticed, during a transition period when the first part of the debate’s hosts (Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, and Jose Diaz-Balart) turned things over to Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow, the network experienced some massive technical difficulties.
It was so embarrassing that many of the candidates on stage didn’t know how to react.
Neither for that matter, did the debate hosts themselves.
This is why Trump had a field day with their terrible execution.
Halfway through the debate “Meet The Press” Chuck Todd and MSNBC’s host Rachel Maddow took over to ask the questions.
Once they were handed the mics, Todd noticed he couldn’t hear anything.
Todd sheepishly looked at the control room when he noticed the issue.
“I think we had a little mic issue in the back,” Todd said.
“We have the audience on.” but he couldn’t hear much else.
Todd tried to move on with the debate and part of the way through a question on gun control another gaffe took place.
The 10 Democrats on stage didn’t know what to do. Some of them smirked, others fidgeted and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn, actually chuckled.
An obviously flustered Maddow looked around with frantic eyes before tensely asking, “What is happening?”
“We are hearing our colleagues’ audio,” Todd informed the control room… “If the control room can turn off the mics… if the control room can turn off the mics of our previous moderators…”
Maddow tried to take control of the situation but sheepishly said “You know, we prepared for everything,” Maddow said. “We did not prepare for this.”
To fix everything, Todd informed the TV viewers “We’re going to take a quick break, we’re gonna get this technical situation fixed,” Todd promised viewers.
As soon as the debacle resolved itself, in real time, one of Trump’s favorite meme makers went to work making a fantastic video lampooning NBC’s failure to execute a proper debate.
In the video, a silhouette appears on a blacked out stage while the audio of Maddow and Todd plays in the background. Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” plays loudly and a shadowy but animated Trump appears on stage just like he did in his presidential debates.
It’s hilarious, and Trump commented sarcastically that he was impressed by how the team at NBC were “real professionals” for their failure to put on a high-caliber debate.
NBC apparently took the insults to heart.
During the second night of the debates, things went much smoother. There were no audio or technical issues of which to speak.
However, plenty of the candidates managed to embarrass themselves, so NBC may have spared themselves further Presidential mockery, but Sanders, Biden, Harris and the others certainly won’t be spared being scorched by Trump.
