College campuses have been fully comprised of the radical left.
The university was once a bastion of critical thinking and scholarship, but far-left liberals have turned it into an indoctrination mill.
But Donald Trump signed one executive order that could be a massive game-changer.
After a conservative student was assaulted by a crazed leftist student at Berkeley, Donald Trump vowed at CPAC to do something about it.
And Trump kept his word.
The President just signed an executive order that forces college campuses to uphold the First Amendment right to free speech.
State schools that don’t comply could lose out on millions in federal funding.
During the signing at the White House, Trump said, “Under the guise of speech codes, safe spaces and trigger warnings, these universities have tried to restrict free thought, impose total conformity and shut down the voices of great young Americans like those here today.”
Trump is exactly right.
College socialists have been encroaching on free speech for a long time.
The nonpartisan free speech organization FIRE expressed measured optimism about Trump’s executive order.
Excerpted from FIRE’s statement on Trump’s action: “To the extent that today’s executive order asks colleges and universities to meet their existing legal obligations, it should be uncontroversial.”
But campus leftists won’t go down without a fight.
Socialism is frighteningly on the rise in America.
According to a Gallup poll, 51% of young people are positive about socialism.
A survey conducted by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation discovered that 44% of millennials would prefer to live under socialism.
Unabashed socialists are even sitting in the House and the Senate.
After the horrors of the 20th century, it seems unfathomable that any reasonable person could favor socialism.
But there’s one reason why that murderous doctrine lives on: the universities.
Approximately 40% of professors in the social sciences and humanities openly identify as Marxists, and there are undoubtedly many more.
The Communist Manifesto remains the most-assigned book in college across many disciplines.
These radical leftists spent decades taking over America’s universities, and they won’t relinquish power.
That’s why they are so hostile toward free speech; they don’t want their bad ideas exposed in debate.
And these bad ideas are spreading.
According to another poll, 40% of millennials believe that speech considered “harmful” to minorities should be restricted.
Harm is defined however leftists see fit.
The reason why these ideas have been allowed to fester is because conservatives neglected the universities for too long.
They allowed socialists to rewrite history and whitewash the crimes of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro and other communist dictators.
And they’ve been aided by propagandists in entertainment like Michael Moore who make documentaries about how glorious Cuba’s health care system is.
Conservatives need to do a better job of educating millennials on what socialism actually entails, because many of them think it just means free stuff.
They don’t know about the abolition of property rights, speech codes, re-education camps, and many other human rights abuses.
Whenever conservative speakers try to come to college and tell students the truth, they’re shouted down or banned.
But Trump’s executive order is the first step in fixing a problem that has rotted American universities for decades.
