Fake news CNN is in a tailspin.
Ratings are in the toilet, anchors are making fools of themselves in public or facing ugly allegations of homosexual sexual assault.
And now this lawsuit has CNN worried they are about to lose everything.
The latest black eye for CNN came when White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham suspended CNN White House correspondent Brian Karem’s press pass for 20 days after he tried to start a fight with former White House advisor Sebastian Gorka in the Rose Garden.
Grisham suspended Karem’s credentials based on the procedure put in place after fake news CNN’s Jim Acosta sued to get his “hard pass” restored following his boorish behavior at a White House press conference the day after the 2018 midterms.
Karem’s lawyer, Ted Boutrous, announced Karem was suing the White House to regain his press pass.
“We are confident that the Administration’s latest punitive and lawless action against a journalist will not stand, and we look forward to our day in court,” Boutrous declared.
Grisham did not back down.
The White House Press Secretary fired off a statement explaining that Karem’s conduct reached far over the line of acceptable behavior for a human being in a social setting.
“I stand by my decision to temporarily suspend Mr. Karem’s hard pass for 30 days due to his behavior at a Rose Garden event. The purpose of a hard pass is to provide access to the White House so members of the press can report and ask questions of officials who are taking questions. Mr. Karem did not use the access granted to him for journalistic purposes – in fact, the President had left the event. Instead, he used his press pass to insult invited guests and make comments that threatened to escalate into a physical confrontation to the point that the Secret Service intervened.”
White House correspondents are already furious the Trump administration did away with the daily press briefing.
This deprived the liberal activists of the chance to be seen on camera screaming at the Press Secretary so their network could create viral clips for social media and cable news.
CNN has even more at risk in this lawsuit.
Their so-called “reporters” set the standard of unprofessional conduct.
While the First Amendment absolutely protects freedom of speech and freedom of the press, it does not give journalists license to defame or slander public officials.
It is also not an open invitation for so-called “reporters” to treat the White House like the build up to Wrestlemania and unleash tirades that disrupt official events or make it impossible for their colleagues or White House staff to perform their duties.
If Karem loses this suit, CNN will have to abandon their war footing with the administration and behave like an actual news network.
Considering CNN’s business strategy consists of over-the-top negative coverage of the President in order to attract liberal viewers, this would be the final nail in the coffin.
A neutered CNN – where reporters have to act like actual human beings during press events – will not appeal to the “resistance” the network is trying to court.
