CNN can’t afford anymore scandals.
The network has been staggering after a combination of fake news, discrimination lawsuits, and low ratings.
But CNN’s Chris Cuomo instantly regretted one career-killing video going viral that just may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
Video footage rocketed around the internet of a confrontation between Cuomo and a random stranger.
The stranger had approached Cuomo and asked him for a photo, but called him “Fredo Cuomo.”
The stranger said he thought that was his name after listening to Rush Limbaugh.
Cuomo immediately exploded in a rage.
The CNN anchor flew off the handle swearing at the man, even with Cuomo’s children present.
“Punk-ass bitches from the right call me Fredo,” Cuomo ranted.
“My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN. Fredo is from The Godfather.”
Cuomo proceeded to claim that calling an Italian “Fredo” was equivalent to calling a black person the “n-word.”
Remarkably, things took a turn for the worse.
In full sight of his family and other witnesses, Cuomo threatened to kill the man by throwing him down a flight of stairs.
“I’ll $%^&** ruin your shit. I’ll &*^%$ throw you down these stairs like a %^&@! punk.”
CNN responded to Cuomo’s outrageous behavior by repeating his false claim that he was the victim of a racial slur.
“Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him,” a CNN statement read.
The truth is “Fredo” is not an ethnic slur.
Fredo Corleone was the weaker, gullible, and incompetent older brother of Michael Corleone in the first two Godfather movies.
Calling someone a “Fredo” is an insult to their specific character and deficiencies as a man.
It is not stereotyping the characteristics of Italians.
President Trump also needled Cuomo on social media.
“I thought Chris was Fredo also. The truth hurts. Totally lost it! Low ratings @CNN,” Trump tweeted.
For his part, Cuomo knew his conduct and claims of being the victim of a racial slur was indefensible and tried to beat a retreat.
“Appreciate all the support but – truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me. This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose,” Cuomo tweeted.
But President Trump got the last word by pointing out the fake news media’s double-standard.
President Trump wrote that, “It always happens! When a Conservative does even a fraction of what Chris Cuomo did with his lunatic ranting, raving, & cursing, they get destroyed by the Fake News. But when a Liberal Democrat like Chris Cuomo does it, Republicans immediately come to his defense. We never learn!”
